The First Amendment

I can’t emphasize this enough … The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights clearly indicates freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Considering the context of the times and the writing of the founders, not to mention the documents themselves, should further convince any logical person of the intent.

Amendment I – Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Would it be better blank?

In other words, people can worship as they choose without government interference. {Note: It doesn’t say anything about birth control in there}. People pass around this garbage, implying that “conservative Christians” are trying to rule the land. The TEA Party is evil and trying to do to folks what the Pilgrims were escaping from. Well, neither the original Pilgrims or present-day TEA ‘Partyers’ wrote the founding documents. The government is … and always has been … filled with people of various denominations of Christians and other faiths. We were BORN a Judeo/Christian Nation … yes, of mostly white men and women discovering, colonizing, advancing and creating the Nation that we have become. Immigrants, all. As other parts of the world began immigrating here, they brought their particular skills & customs to the mix. All are free to believe as they wish and to practice their religions. Those not fortunate enough to believe just have to put up with the majority. Atheists are not religious. Environmentalism is not a religion. With the help of all, we have honed the Constitution and gotten the kinks out. Follow it. Believe in it. Let it do for us what it can. What it says, without finding what you wish was there “in there”. It’s a simple, but incredibly clear road map and it has gotten us further along in less time than any civilization ever has. In short, please stop your bitchin’!
